The University of Ulster’s vision is to be the leading university for sport in Ireland and the Ulster Sports Academy has now expanded to offer the services of our Performance Services unit.

Performance Services provide an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to athletic needs. The unit provides unparalleled facilities and expertise that will enable an athlete to unlock their sporting potential. The services are available to all, irrespective of budget and performance level. The services are predominantly delivered at the new indoor sports facilities, at the Jordanstown campus. Most services can also be delivered anywhere in Ireland.

Staff

Service delivery is coordinated by William Moore B.A. (Hons), M.Sc, C.S.C.S, A.S.C.C. (Performance Services Officer) who has extensive experience in providing support services to many athletic groups at varying performance levels. As well as coordinating activities he is also involved in service delivery in the areas of physiological support and strength & conditioning.


Performance Services boast one of the most extensive lists of strength & conditioning coaches in Ireland. Three U.K.S.C.A Level three accredited coaches and ten assistant strength and conditioning coaches are available to provide support throughout the province.


Strong links with the School of Sport Studies and the Sport and Exercise Research Institute enable clients to avail of expertise in the areas of sports physiology, psychology and nutrition. Additionally, the services of the UU Clinic are also available on site - offering physiotherapy, sports massage and podiatry support.

The newly opened indoor sports facilities at Jordanstown boast some of the best facilities in Ireland including:

  • Sports Science Laboratories
  • Environmental Chamber
  • Two Strength & Conditioning Facilities
  • Sports Hall 3 G         
  • Indoor Athletics Area (60m Sprint Track with 25m run off)
  • Triple and Long Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault
  • Throws area that includes throws cage and throwing wall
  • 100m Outdoor Sprint Area with 25m run off
  • Sports Halls 1 & 2    
  • Gymnasium
  • Wellness Suite                     
  • Recovery Centre including Plunge Pools, Jacuzzi, Steam Room and Sauna

User Groups


The performance services unit is continually growing in staffing numbers and continues to provide athlete support packages that develop excellence at all levels of competition; from school group to senior international athletes. Over the past two years the unit has helped the following external sports and teams.

  • Association Football – Northern Ireland U21s, U15s, U14s and U13s male squads. U21 and 19 female teams. The I.F.A senior referees, Linfield, Cliftonville and Cruesaders F.C.
  • Fencing - Northern Ireland Junior Development Programme (JDP)
  • Gaelic Football – Tyrone seniors, Derry seniors, Cavan U21s, Errigal Ciaran, Moy, Derrylaughan, Ballinderry, Glenullin, Bredagh and Maddens G.F.C.
  • Hockey – Ireland seniors, Ulster Hockey male and female squads at U18 and U16 levels.
  • Netball – the Northern Ireland U21 squad.
  • Sailing – The RYANI youth and junior squads and the Irish National Youth Academy.
  • Squash – The Ulster Squash performance development squad.
  • Rugby – Belfast Royal Academy first VX.
  • The unit also support many individual cyclists, athletes and triathletes.
  • Internally, the unit also serves many of the eilte student athletes by providing support to the golf bursars, student scholars and Jordanstown campus focus sports, including athletics, Gaelic football, hockey and rugby.

 


 

Opening Hours

Services are available on site during the following hours:

Monday – Friday 8.00-22.00
Saturday 10.00-17.00
Sunday 12.00-18.00

Service delivery can also be negotiated to be provided off site at any time.

Register your details with us to receive information on special promotional deals.
