Ulster Sports Academy >Community Sports:

Community engagement has been identified by the Ulster Sports Academy as a key area for development, as we strive to increase participation in sport and physical activity in the wider communities.

Through strategic partnerships with statutory agencies, private sector organisations and volunteer agencies the Sports Academy aims to become embedded in the heart of the community, to be seen as a warm and welcoming environment where young people, from all backgrounds, can be inspired to achieve their potential.

Sport can open up access to the University and a lifelong learning association with it, while our world class facilities, staff and students across three campuses provide a platform quite unique to Northern Ireland.

The creation of quality community sports programmes on each campus will be the basis for attracting and encouraging local community members to become part of the Ulster sports experience.

We work with a range of clients and partners on various sports and leisure projects which include:

  • After schools and holiday camp coaching programmes
  • Training and competition programmes
  • Community integration initiatives
  • Youth diversionary initiatives
  • Disability sports initiatives

World Class Facilities

Facility development has been at the forefront of our vision for sport at Ulster, most notably with the recent opening of the world class facilities on the Jordanstown campus.  Ulster have a new third generation outdoor pitch on the Magee campus and have aspirations for improving our outdoor provision on the Coleraine campus.

Coaching and Volunteering

At Ulster we have a vast variety of qualified competent coaches, not least in the form of permanent staff and student coaching scholarships.  We are always looking to increase our coaching and volunteering network through graduates from our School of Sports Studies and those currently undertaking CPD modules offered on each campus.

Innovative Programmes

Strategic partnerships will drive the creation of innovative programmes designed to address the needs and wants of local community groups and individuals.  By listening to our partner agencies we will help create programmes that will become embedded in the heart of the community in order to open access to Ulster and its rich resources in education, research and knowledge exchange.
