Volunteer Search for Boccia World Cup
In August this year, over 400 competitors and officials from 33 nations are coming to Northern Ireland to compete in the biggest Boccia event ever to be hosted in the United Kingdom. They will converge on the University of Ulster Jordanstown campus venue for what promises to be a truly world class, Paralympic qualifying event.
Boccia, pronounced ‘Botcha’, is a target ball sport from the same family as bowls. Requiring great skill and subtlety it is played by wide sections of the community on a recreational basis but at an elite level it is recognised as a Paralympic sport for athletes with disabilities affecting motor skills. It is these elite athletes who will journey to Northern Ireland to compete individually, in pairs and as teams for the World Cup honours at stake.
To ensure that the Boccia World Cup runs smoothly and successfully we will need the assistance of over 200 enthusiastic volunteers to help coordinate the event and ensure that the participants, officials, and spectators have a great experience during their stay in Northern Ireland. Each volunteer will make a unique contribution to the event, utilising their own skills and experiences, knowledge and ideas working as part of a supportive volunteer team. There will be a range of volunteering opportunities available so if you are 18 years of age or over (on 1 June 2011) and can spare some time before, during and/or after the event, there is a role (big or small) for you. You can find more information about volunteering at the Boccia World Cup by clicking on the Volunteering FAQs and Volunteer Role Descriptions links. Completed Application Forms should be returned by post or email to the addresses given by 8 July 2011. Further information may be obtained by contacting Alison Moffitt, by email on a.moffitt@ulster.ac.uk or mobile 07904 305564.
